Hohlgangsanlage 1 Munitions Storage Tunnel
Ho.1 was constructed in 1941 during World War II. It was originally constructed as a munitions storage facility. Following the war a section was filled with anti aircraft guns and then sealed up. There was a change in plan, and in 1948 the States opened up the tunnels and sent all the armaments for scrap.
Jersey Mushrooms Ltd used the tunnels due to the dark constant temperatures inside the tunnels. Sadly this use came to an end in November 2006 when the tunnels were sold and mushroom production ceased. The ventilation/irrigation system they installed has now been turned off. The tunnels now sit quiet for the first time since mushroom production began.
